Cream Cheese Brownies, a Lost cause…

Yesterday was the Series Finale of Lost.  I made cream cheese brownies which I thought appropriately symbolized the good verses evil, light verses dark, Jacob verses the Man in Black theme that has characterized the final season.

Lost Cream Cheese Brownies

These brownies were really good.  Probably the best I have ever made.  Here is Paula Deen’s recipe from The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cookbook :

The Lady & Sons Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of  sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 tbs cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups of self rising flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat oven to 325.  Blend together sugar, oil, eggs, cocoa, and vanilla.  Add flour; mix.  Add nuts; spread into greased 13 x 9 baking dish, bake 25-30 minutes.  (I actually had to cook these about 15 or so minutes longer.  I suggest setting a timer for 30 minutes and check them every 5 minutes after.)

Cream Cheese Brownies

Use the Lady & Sons brownie mix above.  Pour 1/2 batter into greased pan.  Layer with this cream cheese mix then top with remaining batter.

Ingredients:

  • 8 tbs (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1-8oz package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbs all purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.

Cream together butter and cream cheese.  Add remaining ingredients; blend well, swirl into brownie batter with knife edge.

I bought the cream cheese icing and dyed it green with food coloring just for fun.

I can say for a fact that these brownies were off the chain, even though I scalped them.
