Bourre!
Lately my most favorite Friday or Saturday night activity is getting together with my close friends and playing bourre. I don't know if it is the gambling, the drinking that accompanies the gambling, or simply that I am spending time with my good friends, but I love it. Bourre is not well known and therefore the people who play bourre are part of an elite group of card players. It is a Cajun card game that originated in the Acadia region of Louisiana. My friends and I were taught how to play bourre by my friend Katie Doughty's family...

Katie’s Birthday Weekend
This past weekend, I had 5 house guests and a surprise birthday party at my house. Friday afternoon, four friends from Atlanta and one from Dallas came into town to celebrate our friend Katie's birthday. Although I am pretty sure she had an idea something was going on, the party and the weekend as a whole was a success. We had a surprise party on Friday night which included so many wonderful things to eat, a bonfire, beautiful table arrangements, good music and good times. Our relaxing Saturday included a delicious breakfast at City Bagel, a garage...
Tulips!
Filed under: Gardening, Lesson Learned, Things That Make Me Happy
My tulips are blooming! I am so excited because these tulips are the first bulbs I have ever planted. Last year I bought tulips that were about to bloom in a planter from Lowe's and re-planted them around my mailbox. They immediately fell over. Little did I know that they were not supposed to be re-planted. I tried tying their little stems to a mini metal rose trellis, similar to the way you...
10 Items I Fancy on Vinyl
Ben and I have so busy lately painting our bathroom and guest bathroom, planting annuals in our front flower beds, hanging shutters, painting cabinets, starting our seedlings for this year's garden and making a headboard (I will be posting about these projects soon!). While working on these home improvements, we have fallen in love with vinyl all over again. I don't think I would ever mind painting a cabinet as long as I could listen to Jim Croce on vinyl. Here are a few of our favorite albums in our small but...

Recently I have been trying to find ways to make our living room look brighter and more inviting, which is a challenge with our wood paneling. The obvious answer would be to open the blinds and pull back the curtains but we live on a somewhat busy street and I enjoy my privacy. While looking at a home tour on either Design*Sponge or Apartment Therapy (sorry I can't remember which one) I noticed that someone mentioned their curtain was actually a drop cloth. So I measured my windows and off to Lowe's I went on a...
Happy Birthday Zoe!
Today is my sweet Zoe's birthday, which is also the Ides of March. She is 8 years old, which makes it more real that I am turning 30 this year. I made her wear her cupcake t-shirt which she immediately tried to get off. Anyways Happy Birthday to Zoe, she makes my life complete.
Before & After: Vintage Mirror
My friend Jillian had this really neat vintage mirror in her guest bedroom. She said that a friend had given it to her and she had been meaning to do something with it. She told me that I could have it if I wanted it. Of course I was overjoyed.
The mirror was so awesome but needed a lot of work. The frame had a thin laminate covering that was peeling in some places, it needed to be cleaned and needed a couple coats of paint. After reading...
Fat Tuesday
Although we didn't go to Mardi Gras this year, we still had a fun night filled with good friends, awesome hurricanes, delicious red beans and rice (thanks Katie!) and the best king cake I have ever had. Ben made the hurricanes using this recipe, which I highly...
