Garden Update: What a cute little cantaloupe!

This year our garden hasn't been the best.  I blame the heat really.  But this past Friday Ben and I picked two cantaloupes from our garden, which just so happen to be the only two it produced.  We were so thrilled that we immediately cut one of them open and ate it.  It was the best cantaloupe I have ever had, no joke.  There is something so gratifying about growing melons, probably because it takes so long for them to ripen.

A little garden update

It seems like everything is growing so fast in our little garden lately.  Our potatoes have been harvested, our sunflowers are getting tall, our corn is even taller, our watermelon vine is going crazy, we picked our first cucumber and we have lots of little green tomatoes!

I’ll just pull it up, since I’m not allergic to Poison Ivy

Last Wednesday on my lunch break, Ben and I were looking at our garden's progress, when we noticed some poison ivy on the edge of our garden.  I said, "I'll just pull it up since I'm not allergic to Poison Ivy."  I then proceeded to pull up the vines without gloves on.  Do not make my mistake! Things I have learned about Poison Ivy/Virginia Creeper: 1.  Poison Ivy often grows alongside Virginia Creeper. We have tiny little potatoes!

Our Backyard Garden

This past weekend, Ben and I finished planting our garden.  We started the day at Lowe's buying vegetable plants to replace some of our seedlings that didn't make it. Recently we have had a lot of  rainfall and flooding, so we tried to wait to plant the seedlings we started indoors a couple of months ago and it wasn't the best idea.  Once we returned home, we brought the record player outside and finished planting our garden. Tulips!

 

My tulips are blooming!  I am so excited because these tulips are the first bulbs I have ever planted.   Last year I bought tulips that were about to bloom in a planter from Lowe's and re-planted them around my mailbox.   They immediately fell over.  Little did I know that they were not supposed to be re-planted.  I tried tying their little stems to a mini metal rose trellis, similar to the way you...

This past weekend, my husband and I drove to Houma, LA because his band, The Devil, You and Me had a gig at The Boxer and the Barrel.  It is always nice to see my friends who now reside in LA and of course to see my husband play the washtub bass but the drive takes forever.  About 5 and 1/2 hours to be exact. Oh did I mention, We have Sunflowers!

It is hard to have a bad day when these beautiful sunflowers are growing in your backyard.  My sunflowers are different from the more common and quite larger annual sunflowers, but I like them better and I will be able to enjoy them year after year.  It was so nice of my neighbor to give me these beautiful flowers as seedlings.
