Last night while on my way to Old Venice, a tiny kitten ran in front of my car on Main Street.  She looked too tiny to be by herself and I was worried she would get run over, not to mention it was 100 degrees outside.  I tried for about 15 minutes to catch her but didn’t have any luck, so I enlisted the help of my friend and neighbor Anna.  We tried for another 15 minutes with no luck.  We decided to go inside and eat dinner with the hope that we could catch her later.  I ordered a salad and as soon as the waitress brought me my salad, Anna walked into the bar holding the tiny kitten.  I immediately said “check please.”  I looked at Ben and said, “we may have adopted a tiny baby kitten.”  He looked worried.

She is really sweet and so little and cute.  If we don’t find her owner and you find that you need a tiny kitten in your life,  email me, otherwise we may have a new kitten.

The Cotton District Arts Festival is one of my favorite things about Starkville and this year will be our first time to be vendors! I always have such a great time at the CDAF and I am sure this year will not be an exception.  Check out our stuff on Etsy to get a peak of what we will be selling.  See my notebooks and journals here and see Nikki’s stitching here.

Even with all of the rust and decay, the old bridge is a lot cooler than the new one.

Columbus has even added a 1.25 mile walking trail, benches and pavilions to Riverside Park.

After leaving The Riverwalk, we decided to try the  new Thai place in Columbus, Bann Thai.   Do yourself a favor and try it out.  I had hot and sour soup and pad thai.  Both were amazing.

During this trip I made the most pleasant discovery, which made the drive quite delightful.  MPB (Mississippi Public Broadcasting) Radio archives past program airings into podcasts available for free on their website.  I have never been a big podcast person but I love public radio, especially The Gestalt Gardner and Creature Comforts.  I was overjoyed once I realized I could plug my iphone into my FM transmitter and listen to my favorite radio programs through my car’s speakers.  We learned so much about gardening and animals in Mississippi.  Both of these shows are informative and hilarious. Oh and I even named the alligator that lives in the bayou behind The Boxer and the Barrel, Felder after The Gestalt Gardner’s Felder Rushing.

Two of my friends (Nikki Ballard and Cory Waldrop) and I are going to have a booth at this year’s Prairie Arts Festival on September 4th.  I am so excited.  Never in a million years would I have ever thought I would be selling homemade items, much less at the PAF.  The PAF is kind of a big deal.  I have gone to the PAF about ten times over the years and I look forward to it every year.  One of the reasons I love living in Mississippi is that most little towns have some type of annual festival and West Point’s PAF is one of the best I have seen.

Mosquitoes love me.  My mom says it is because I am so sweet.  I usually use whatever bug spray I can find but I recently tried this insect repellent from Burt’s Bees and it is my new favorite.

3.  Benadryl Itch Stopping Gel

Don’t judge me.  I live in Mississippi where there are as many mosquitoes as Republicans. I keep this in my purse at all times during the summer.    It works.

4.  These Sunglasses

I wear them everywhere.

5.  The Hold Steady

I can’t wait to see The Hold Steady at the Hi-Tone in Memphis next month.  I heart them.
