Catfish Alley, Spring 2011 Issue
I am so incredibly happy to announce that my notebooks are in a magazine!!! Not just any magazine but the premiere issue of Catfish Alley based in Columbus, Mississippi. It is now available on local news stands and available at The Book Mart and Barnes & Nobles here in Starkville. Everyone should run out and buy this issue in support of this wonderful new local magazine. I really can't express how awesome it feels to see a picture of my little notebooks in an actual magazine with my name and everything!!!
The Old River Bridge in Columbus, Mississippi
Since I am from Columbus, it is easy to forget how nice it can be sometimes. On Saturday, Ben and I had a fun little afternoon in Columbus. We started off by going to Palmer Home Thrift Store, which is by far my favorite local thrift store. Next I took Ben to see the Tombigbee River and the old river bridge downtown. In high school, some nights we would climb over the walls that blocked off the entrance to the bridge and walk around on the old bridge like rebels. Now the bridge is open for all to enjoy,...
Prairie Arts Festival Here We Come!

I found out today that my vendor application for the 2010 Prairie Arts Festival in West Point, Mississippi was approved!!! Two of my friends (Nikki Ballard and Cory Waldrop) and I are going to have a booth at this year's Prairie Arts Festival on September 4th. I am so excited. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I would be selling homemade items, much less at the PAF. The PAF is kind of a big deal. I have gone to the PAF about ten times over...
Mississippi Magnolia
I can understand why Mississippi chose the Magnolia as it's state flower. They are so beautiful. This one is blooming outside of my window at work. I hope everyone has a great...
Handmade Loveliness by Molly Gee Designs
Filed under: Handmade, I Want This!, Mississippi, Things That Make Me Happy
At the Cotton District Arts Festival this year, my husband bought me a beautiful handmade headband by Molly Gee Designs. The designer Molly Waggener is delightful. I was instantly drawn to her booth because her display was lovely. I must have asked her ten questions about her designs and her business. Molly was really friendly and didn't seem bothered by me at all. Oh did I mention she is from Mississippi. I love that about her. Look at these pretty head pieces. I can't decide which one is my favorite. Also the fact that her photography was shot by the...
Mississippi is #6
On December 17th a study released in the journal Science revealed that a person's view of their own happiness closely correlates to studies objectively measuring each states' quality of life based on factors such as temperature, sunshine, crime, cost of living, etc. Read the whole article here. With that being said, it makes me happy to report that Mississippi has ranked in the top ten for something other than childhood obesity or teen pregnancy. I find it funny that New York is last. I also find it interesting...
Halloween Pumpkin Carving
Since my friend John bought me a white pumpkin from a pumpkin patch in Caledonia, Mississippi for Halloween, I decided that this year I would actually carve a pumpkin. Every year we talk about carving one but thus far it has not happened. This is how I did it, well this is how John, Nikki and I did it: I placed the pumpkin on an old towel and found a pencil and a permanent marker to draw his face. I was told this is not the first step and that I should cut the stem first but...
