1.  It’s cotton picking time in Mississippi!  I love this time of year when the roadside fields are covered with cotton plants blooming.  Sometimes I stop and pick a few blooms.

2.  My friend Dawn made this painting of June and Zoe for us.  She is a pretty talented girl!  I can’t wait to hang a little painting of Olive right beside this one in my kitchen.

3.  Last Sunday, Ben and I hung up a white sheet in our backyard and watched old scary movies on a projector with friends.  It was my favorite night of the fall so far.  We had turkey chili dogs and even made s’mores.  It was a blast.

4.  Our garden may be done for the season but our sunflowers are in full bloom, making our backyard prettier than ever.

5.  Ben is such a talented musician and  sometimes he plays the saw.  I am quite a lucky girl.  Sorry this photo is dark, bars never have good lighting.

1.  Ben got me these pretty flowers for our 2 year anniversary.  He is so sweet and romantic.  He ordered them from the same florist we used for our wedding.

2.  This pic is for Dawn, my friend who loves seahorses.  I took this at our local pet store.  There are actually two in this tank and I think they may be lovers.   At one point while I was trying to take a better pic, this little guy swam up to the other seahorse and they wrapped their tails together.  It was really sweet.

3.  Our sunflowers are blooming again.  I love this time of  year.

4.  So I took this photo at Kroger the other night.  Why would you name your company Freshlike?  That seems so dumb to me.

5.  This last photo is a bit blurry.  June is going to be a turtle this year for Halloween.  She barely sits still long enough for me to snap a pic.  Now all we need is a bandana and she can be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!

1.  On our recent trip to Atlanta, we drove through Tuscaloosa and saw these beautiful fields of sunflowers.  I made Ben pull over immediately.

2.  My friends Katie and Kacey live in the Virginia Highlands part of Atlanta.  It is such a cute neighborhood.  I took this photo right before we went to a garage sale.

3.  The first night we were in Atlanta, we went to an Atlanta Braves baseball game.  Katie and I split some cotton candy.  She looks way cuter eating it, than I did.

4.  Last week was my friend Nikki’s birthday.  We started off her birthday weekend with Margaronas.

5.  Last week I was trying to take a photo of our tiny little watermelon growing in our garden when I accidentally picked it.  The watermelon vine has taken over the end of a whole row in our garden and has started climbing our fence.  This little watermelon was growing on the fence which probably means it wouldn’t have gotten too much bigger anyways.  I posted a different photo of it on Instagram and my friend Dawn commented that she couldn’t tell how big it was from the photo.  So Ben took this photo to show the watermelon’s size in comparison to Zoe.

Who knew that squash have such pretty flowers?

Okay and the next update isn’t so much a garden update as it is a front flower bed update.  When we first moved in,  I was thrilled that we had Azaleas or what I thought were azaleas.  After a couple of months,  I decided that they were not “thriving” in their location and pulled them up.  I am what you could call an impatient gardener.  In retrospect I realize that I should have just moved them instead of declaring them unfit and throwing them away.   In their place, we planted gardenias.  I love gardenias.  They smell so wonderful!  I was starting to get sad about my gardenias about a month ago until a couple of people reassured me that it wasn’t time for them to bloom yet.  So I have been watering them every other day, fertilizing them, telling them how much I love them and waiting.

Side note:  My husband and I are new homeowners.  We have never planted our own flowers, bushes, vegetables or anything that didn’t fit into a pot or a container.  Every time something new blooms whether wildflower or not, I feel like it is my birthday.  I have waited my whole life to have my very own yard and I am loving this process.  So if I seem way too excited about my flowers or my garden, it is because I am.

Back to my point, Monday my first gardenia bloomed!
